Charity Ball for Tinkerbella's Wishes
A Charity Ball for Tinkerbella's Wishes, a local charity dedicated to raising awareness of brain tumours and funding research into their cause and treatment. Mark Poole & 7 Storey Soul in Leicester Mercury's "Pick of the Day"...

Pick of the Day: Mark Poole and 7StoreySoul(Wednesday, August 05, 2009, 09:30)

The ultimate celebration of 1970s soul and funk anyone?

Imaginative funk-based originals and smooth 70s soul covers are the pleasurable products of, arguably,Leicester's top band in this gargantuan genre.

The lucid lead vocals of Mark Poole and Laura Kate Hughes are underpinned by 7StoreySoul's ultra funky rhythm section featuring Rob Lallo on bass and Paul 'Robbo' Robinson on drums; while extra frills are added by the blues-tinged lead guitar of Stedroy 'Steddy' Ford.

Covers range from 'Streetlife' by The Crusaders to 'Don't Stop Til You Get Enough' by Michael Jackson, and from 'We Are Family' by Sister Sledge to 'Cosmic Girl' by Jamiroquai.

They bill themselves as "a seriously funky band – guaranteed to fill the floor of any function!"

And if you've never been to The Musician in Leicester, it's a friendly and intimate little venue.

So tonight's the night to hear a strong local band in a strong local venue.

Or to, as Wild Cherry once put it, ''Lay down that boogie and play that funky music till ... erm ... it's time to go home again''.
